FUNDRAISING!

After everyone left it was only me and Ferran selling the muffins all over campus. I have to say running around with Ferran was an adventure to say the least! We pretty much harassed the entire campus trying to get them to buy our baked goods lol. We found out that the Psychology Department was probably the most welcoming. They showed the most interest in our traveling bake sale, probably because they were intrigued by our behavior so they may have been analyzing the situation, which in the end worked out for the best since they gave us their money :) Not so friendly was the Anthropology Department. We won't get into details but let's just say not very welcoming :/ As we were selling our products we were able to spread the word even more about our exhibition and people seemed really interested in it so we should have a big turn out! Overall today was a big success, we gather a total amount of $158 with a base of $30 so I think we make $128 in profit! Yay!

ATTENTION PEOPLE!

It is now sunday and I still don't have the measurements and quantity of pieces from Kristen, Hayley, Tristan and Ferran. Please guys answer the post. Even a slight idea would be sufficient to give us something to work with and know where to place you best. Don't wait until the last minute to answer. If we don't know what you are doing, then we will just have to "guesstimate" and you will have to accomodate yourself to those parameters. I can't stress enough that I have been adamantly asking for this information for some time. Just answer back!

LOFTS MEASUREMENTS

Ok guys so here it is! A few days ago we were able to get all the measurements from the room we will be working with. I hope this helps you picture the space that we will be hanging our pieces in. Now it is imperative that we get an idea of the sizes and amount of images you are looking to put in the show, this way me and Kenyatta are able to come up with two possible scenarios of arrangements for the rooms. Keep in mind if you do not tells us how big or how much you are looking to put in, you may not get what you want in the end. Overall we have 10 full walls to work with with and 2 small walls that could be used as possible extra space for someone who needs a little more room. Please don't take this inquire lightly, we need to know what you will be putting up (size and quantity) so that we can arrange the space properly.

Enjoy!

BLIND PHOTOGRAPHY?

While I was browsing through channels the other day I came across this documentary about photographers, blind photographers. I was hoping I was going to be able to find the documentary online but as of now all I found was the trailer for it. I hope that if you do have HBO maybe try to watch it. The documentary's name is Dark Light: The Art of Blind Photographers. It showcases the work of Pete Eckhert, Bruce Hall, and Henry Butler. It's about a 30 minute documentary so it's not too long. I hope you guys get a chance to watch it.

PINHOLE IMAGES

I have finally gotten to shoot with my pinhole camera and I have to say I am as excited as the first time I shot with the Holga. The developing is a bit faster and the scanning is not as much of a pain. The first images was done with a 17 min exposure, the second one with 15 mins, and the last one was about 12 mins. I think my favorites are the last two. Feedback?

FRAMES?

While looking at prices for wire and things of that sort I ended up getting prices for frames. The prices I got were mostly from Hobby Lobby or Home Depot. I looked at a variety of sizes and prices and hope that this helps when you are in look out for some frames for you pieces.

Frames with Glass (wood)---Exhibition (type).
These have a simple black frame. I did purchase some for the Juried Exhibition and they were light weight, so they're easy to carry, and elegant in a way.

16x20 -- $29.99
24x36 -- $49.99
11 3/4x36 -- $34.99

22x28 -- $44.99
18x24 -- $34.99

Frames with Glass (plastic)---Thin (type).

These frames are a bit more on the cheap side. I don't think I would recommend them for the exhibition but I don't know everyone's budget and if treated with care it may not look too bad. As well, they are light in weight, even more because the frame itself is not very thick.

16x20 -- $9.99
24x36 -- $19.99
11 3/4x36 -- $11.99
14x18 -- $14.99
22x28 -- $15.99
18x24 -- $12.99

All of the prices I got at Hobby Lobby. Now you all know that most, if not all the time the frames are 50% off! You can get two frames for the price of one, which to me seems like a pretty decent deal.

You can as well sign up to get the weekly coupons from Hobby Lobby and get extra discounts there. Not that I am trying to sponsor Hobby Lobby but it is close and when there are discounts available there are beneficial to us. I am really just trying to get you guys an idea of prices and give you a starting point of comparison when you go and get your own prices. I am sure by now you should have a good idea of where you like to shop for your frames but if you don't here is a good way to start.

Now...... Glass

If you were looking to make your own frames or getting simply the frames from a shop you will need glass. I got the prices from Home Depot.

Glass
--only comes in standard sizes. If you need to cut it, things may get even more costly or dangerous.

24x30" -- $10.38
12x36" -- $6.30
18x36" -- $9.37
24x36" -- $12.39
30x36" -- $15.68
16x20" -- $4.90

Hope this helps guys. If you find better deals yourself, please post it.

Enjoy!

FAR-RA-GO

Me and Kenyatta went to Far-ra-go today and we met with Corinne Galla who is the owner of the place. This is what the gallery looks from the outside. It is located at the heart of Newnan's square and there seems to be plenty of parking on both sides of the road. It is in a one way street.

The gallery space is on the top floor.

The entrance of the place is towards the right. The stairs bring you inmediatly to the hallway were our work would displayed.

This is the hallway. It is approximately 30-40 ft long. The width concerned us since it is only 44 in wide.

The side on the right is made of bricks that has been covered with plaster. The side on the left is regular dry wall. Either way nails would work for both sides. The side on the right has one "dummy" door which used to be a connection path to the other side of the building but that has been closed off. On that wall we only loose the size of the door which is less than 4 ft.
The left side of the hall contains a total of 4 doors. One is located right as you enter the place to the left which leads to the reception area. The next door leads to the other room.

This room we only have available one wall of 15-16 ft. long and a side of about 5 ft.

Corinne did state that she would move the art work from the walls that we would be using which is the hallway and the walls mentioned previously. The rest of the work will still be hung up. Our reception area is her main studio in which most of her work is located. She made it clear that her work would stay on the walls. There is a table provided to us but it is not too long for beverages and food. We did ask if we wanted to bring tables, Corinne said it would not be a problem.

As far as the rest there is a kitchen that is located almost at the end of the hallway.

At the end of the hallway turn left, then turn right and the bathroom would be there. Oh and not that it matters but the bathroom has a shower in it too lol.

For tuesday we will have a floor plan of the place but I don't think we can give an idea of who would go where since we don't know the scale people were thinking of working on. Since the space we have is not as big as we had imagined originally, it limits the size of our pieces and the amount of pieces that we can put in. Unfortunatly we have 8 people exhibiting work and this makes the space pretty small. We did hear from some people who were interested in working in a grid system so that would work for the hallway space since height wise we do have room to work with. Due to the width of the hallway being 44 in. we can't hang anything too high up or too low because our audience will not be able to appreciate it. So please tell me what you think about the space and if you have any ideas on how to display the work.

HOPEFULLY...

So with Kenyatta we're expecting to go to the gallery on Wednesday of next week in order to get a feel of the space and be able to work out different scenarios for the exhibition. As far as supplies does anyone have any particular requests as far as things they would need to hang up their frames? This way we can go around and look at the things we need and get a proper estimate. I think Kenyatta said that she had some wire, nails, and tools so we should not have to spend money for that. I'll be taking my camera so I'll post pictures of the space so everyone can get a better look of what is going on.

HAPPY ACCIDENTS?

While doing my BEAUTY series my model brought her daughter along. While Salome, my model, was changing clothes her daughter, Rebecca, got in front of the camera and started to dance to the music in the background. I found it spontaneous and fun. I took advantage of the situation and simply started to photograph her moves and her long blond hair simply flowed. I was happy that Rebecca was able to simply let loose and allowed me to capture her in such a bright light. Let me know what you think?

OH! and I added a little watermark there :) Any pointers on that????

INSPIRATION

I realized I needed to start looking for some inspiration within the fashion world for my beauty project. I have come the conclusion that I need a lot more practice within the studio and my lighting techniques. I have always been really interesting in the fashion world and one of the main photographers that have caught my attention is Patrick Demarchelier. His ability to capture beauty is fascinating to me. His lighting technique is very similar to Richard Avedon. There is a richness to his images and he is not afraid to take risks within his medium. I think the most important thing is that he is not afraid of beauty itself and allows himself to get submerged within his concept and always pushes it forward.

Here is his website. Please take a look at it. I am sure you will enjoy it! Patrick Demarchelier

As well here are some examples of his work.

PROCESS, PROGRESS?

Here is just a little progress I had last week. Just trying out a few things. Let me know what you think or any pointers.

This is about the "beauty" project. I am trying to focus on older women and what they see as beautiful. In this case I focused on what the subject felt most self-concious about and try to portray it as something beautiful. I tried different angles and the way the lighting hit the face. I tried getting up close and farther away. So what do you guys think?

Enjoy!

JEFF CURTO

While doing a bit of homework from History of Photography I came across JEFF CURTO. I became instantly attracted to his work because he uses large format cameras and his work focuses on Italian architecture. Although he uses film his prints are inkjet. He scans his images in and later prints them on rag paper. Curto likes to play with layering the ancient and the contemporary. Another fun fact about him is that he attended Ansel Adams' last workshop!

Visit his website and enjoy his work.

YET ANOTHER YEAR

So this blog has been created to document the progress of the projects I'll be working on for my Advance Photography class. Hopefully this semester my brain will be full of new ideas and experiences.

I came across this website during my Advance Drawing class, please take a look at it and digest all the amazing-ness presented here. It is truly something different and innovate, something we all aspire to be. What attracted me the most were the videos. TAKE A LOOK. Please tell me what you think, let me know if it blew your mind?! Because it sure did mine.

Enjoy!
